Eleventh Day – in “Horoba”, Disneyworld – The Magic Kingdom.

031

It has been a big day and I’m tired, but I have valiantly returned to my green laptop to blog… I wish I’d been this dedicated at school…

A few of you may be wondering what “Horoba” is, and that’s a good question. It is pronounced “Hoh – row – bar” and to understand what it means, you need to know my brother. Meet Jonathon.

038

This is him.

When he was a baby, he was pretty high class. Back in the old days, (the 90s), baby food was not nearly as nutritious as it is now so Mum used to make all the food herself – which a lot of mums still do. But my brother, who spends most of his life eating McDonalds and Fast Food (but still remains extraordinarily thin) established his tastes early and refused to eat any baby food that didn’t come from a jar – and I mean really refuse. So, my poor mother used to have to do make her own food and put it into the jar, and he would happily yum it down. My brother, also, has 5-star taste (ironic, eats McDonalds and has 5-star taste) and one of his very first words was “Horoba”. Of course, Mum and Dad just nodded and smiled and said “Yes, Jonny, yes” whenever he insisted Horoba, and when he got a little older he’d say “Want to go to Horoba” and they’d never have any clue what he was saying, but smile and nod. Anyway, one day they were all watching a Disney flick together and at the end of the movie, an ad played for Disneyworld, Florida and Jonathon perked up at the sight of the 5-star resort “Horoba! Want to go Horoba!” and they finally figured out – he wanted to go to Florida! They quickly changed their answer from “yes” to “no”, but now finally after 20 years – Jonathon got to go to Horoba. So there you go. You now know my brother.

But something you may not know, which I certainly didn’t know was how MASSIVE Disneyworld is! 5 years ago, I went to Disneyland, in Anaheim and I sort of expected Disneyworld to be sort of similar but I soon found out that it’s not… I mean it even has it’s own highway system in it! It has some of the largest parking lots in the world.

I soon found out that there was a replica of Anaheim Disneyland, in Disneyworld. It’s only a small slice of Disneyworld at that, but this is where we went today… and it was fantastic.Something that always amazes me is that is 100% clean, it’s amazing. There is not a scrap of rubbish in sight, and people are constantly cleaning bathrooms and being all happy-like. Disneyland does have some sort of magical feel to it.

I’m not really into rides, but I love the shows – particularly the digital animation interactive Monsters Inc. show and the 4-D Disney Show – if you ever get to Disneyworld – they are a MUST see! Within Disneyland, there are more lands and my favourite is Fantasyland, with the castle facade and the characters and the some of the rides based off the movies and all the animatronics. I love learning about Walt Disney himself, and the absolute empire he created, through a mouse.

But something else I love about Disneyworld (and Disneyland) are the parades and the shows – particularly the dancing, I think it’s great. I love seeing the characters come to life, because they are 100% completely and totally real.

(In case you can’t tell – I am super excited)

There couldn’t possibly be anything more exciting than meeting some of my favourite Disney characters. Everyone knows I love Winnie-the-Pooh and friends, I love Mary Poppins too but I wonder who can guess who my favourite Disney Character is, of the original seven? Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Daisy, Goofy or Pluto?

But the excitement was even greater (just skipping ahead a few hours) when I went to a shop and bought sparkle shoes. Could the day possibly get better?

There is something else that consumed my mind today, and that was definitely looking around and seeing the Tourists. I’m no exception to this, and neither is my family, but the clothing that everyone was wearing was just SCREAMING tourist! Plenty of shorts, long-sleeved shirts, backpacks, 3/4 length jeans, hats, white socks and sneakers and there was also plenty of little girls dressed up as all different princesses. It bugs me that Ariel now has a Princess dress, she’s meant to be a mermaid. She’s a fish. Apparently, she wants to be a human so she can walk, but possibly she has other things on her mind, if you know what I’m saying. But getting off my ideas, and back onto what I saw today. I know you all want photos, and I have to say… who do you think I am… some mad sort of stalker?

Well the answer is… yes, kind of, but whilst I was assuming the role of “17 year old child who’d been abandoned by her owners” I played a game where I just pointed my camera anywhere and took a photo, and you’d be amazed on what I got. I’m not creepy that creepy. I also got lots of people getting in the way of my camera when I was taking photos, and so I’ve just cropped out what I was taking the photo of so you can enjoy the tourists.

There are families all in matching outfits, girls all in princess dresses and some adults too. I saw one family, pushing a 13-or-abouts aged boy in a wheelchair all wearing matching shirts saying “If dreams are heaven on Earth, then battling leukaemia is inferno”.

Yeah, people always dress up in clothes that don’t quite match, or are too small for them (yeah I know my jeans are and you were thinking the same thing – don’t lie), or they haven’t pulled out since the 80s or that you bought because it was 5 dollars. And I have a theory for the mentality:

“It’s okay, we’re travelling. So long as we have clothes, nobody cares what we look like, we won’t know anyone, we just need to be comfortable”

But the thing is, I find you often have more photos when you’re travelling/holidaying/vacationing/sightseeing then any other time, so it’s weird that people want their memories to be of them, in front of a landmark in very tourist clothing. You will also have freak 17 year old Australian girls cropping you as the photo – rather than cropping you out of it. Yeah, I felt weird being a mad stalker – finding tourists in my photos of castles and Mickey Mouse -- for all of your enjoyment so please do enjoy it.

So has anyone guessed (or cared) who my favourite Disney Character is?

For those who can’t tell, this is very anti-climatic, but it’s Pluto. When we were in the souvenir shop, I couldn’t resist. I didn’t find the perfect souvenir in Canada, so I didn’t get one, but I did find one in Disneyworld (reasonably priced too)

And also this, in a tacky souvenir shop, and for anyone who clearly doesn’t know me – Judy Garland is my favourite singer and I love Wizard of Oz:

So, Disneyworld is a great place and if anyone ever gets the chance I really recommend going. I will say though, if you’ve never been before and are deciding between Anaheim Disneyland or Orlando Disneyworld, I would actually (at this stage) recommend Anaheim, if it’s your first time. But I loved Disneyworld, I love Disney full stop. It’s truly an amazing place, I have memories of being completely enthralled at Anaheim, and I think it sort of gets you no matter the age.

Lastly, I just wanted to leave you on a slightly “sentimental” note which I know is rather unlike me – but I took this photo today:

And I just wanted to remind you to do that: Celebrate Everyday. Because life is a blessing, and it’s good. So value it. Love it. Enjoy it.

Tomorrow, I’ll give you a hint where we are going: “Alohomora!”

Any guesses?
