Fifteenth Day – Florida, USA – Lights, Camera, Action!

Today, my last full day in Florida was spent at Disney Hollywood Studios and I have to say, I really enjoyed it. Formerly known as Disney-MGM Studios, this park has a ride through some of the greatest movies of the past century – from Disney and MGM, obviously including Wizard of Oz and other classics, such as: Alien, Indiana Jones and Singing in the Rain. I loved this park because I love movies from the Silver Screen, and I absolutely love animation.

The other part I loved about Disney Hollywood were the live performances, as a dancer (or I should get used to using the term ‘ex-dancer’) I love watching the performances at Disneyworld, and these ones were amazing and I mean check out these costumes from Beauty and the Beast:

I mean that’s a dress. Where were they when I was looking for a formal dress? But Disneyworld is filled with ridiculous outfits and I’m not just talking about tourists here, or the characters because the characters are dancers or wannabe-dancers and should be used to ridiculous costumes – I’m talking about the regular workers at Disneyworld and the uniforms they have to wears.

And this should be where I show you some of the uniforms that people have to wear and I’m going to, but it was raining today so they were all in raincoats and I didn’t get many:

I wonder how it would feel to put on those clothes, look in the mirror and think: “Yup… this is my uniform for work.” I guess you’d have to really want/need the money or be really in touch with your inner child… yeah you might see me working there in a couple of years time.

But there’s always something funny to see in Disneyland, like the family sitting in front of us on the tram for the Backlot Tour (which I really enjoyed and will post photos to Facebook eventually). But this family was just so cute/funny and Mum and I couldn’t help ourselves and had to be all mad stalker for you to take these photos:

So yes we were sitting behind Hillary, Susan, Oliver and Peggy. You see families in matching football jerseys, tie-dyed T-Shirts and now, matching Mickey Mouse ears.

I loved Disney Hollywood Studios, because I love to learn about the history of Animation and Walt Disney himself, I find it truly fascinating. It’s a personal choice – so I don’t know if you’d interest you. My personal favourites, in terms of the parks, are as follows:

  1. Magic Kingdom: It is beautiful, quintessentially Disney and gives you that magical feel that no other place does. I love the characters, the artistic rides and parades.
  2. Disney Hollywood Studios: I love Hollywood, film, the history of film, animation, the history of animation and Disney himself. I also love Pixar films, and this park had a heavy emphasis on it.
  3. Animal Kingdom: It was hard to choose between 3rd and 4th, because I wasn’t in love with either Epcot or Animal Kingdom, but I suppose I did like seeing the animals.
  4. Epcot: I think Epcot is really good for people who haven’t travelled much and really want to. I liked Epcot, but it just wasn’t as good or interesting to me as Magic Kingdom or Disney Hollywood Studios.

I had a great day but you know what annoys me? Certain family members who smell of garlic for the whole day after lunch, and still haven’t fixed the problem even though there is toothpaste in the next room. For fear of my life, I won’t reveal those two family members identity. But there is only three other members, so you can just try and guess.

Tomorrow, we leave Florida and the world of Disney and I will be reminded that life isn’t a Disney fairytale even though Disneyworld told me that I am most like Cinderella:

In some ways, I am glad to leave Florida and Disney. I love Disney, but I’m sick of tourists and screaming children and people being arrogant, I am a bit tired of it. People pushing you out of the way with their stroller – and I make room for people with strollers, because I feel sorry for them but people are being really irritating, which makes me not feel sorry for them. I also saw something that blows my mind – families hiring wheelchairs when nobody, and I mean nobody needs it. The children (about 8 or 9, and 10 or 11, and 11 or 12) just take turns in it. You see that a lot.

But there are people who really need wheelchairs and you see a lot of people there, on a before-death wish and that’s heartbreaking. Today, I saw a kid who was physically and mentally disabled – somewhat severely – hardly able to talk, almost completely unable to walk. He was waiting to see The Incredibles, and the two full-masked characters walked over to his wheelchair, and helped him walk and took a photo with him and everything. This kids face was shining, he was smiling and it was obviously one of the best things in the world for him. His mother looked like she was almost in tears as the two characters helped him back into his wheelchair. That sort of thing, with people who really need wheelchairs and all that – that’s heartbreaking.

I should be off. I have postcards to write to three small children and then I have to pack, and get ready to go to Washington D.C. Did you know D.C. stands for “District of Columbia”? I sure didn’t.

But as they say: “That’s a wrap, folks!”
